Community members raise concerns over broken fire hydrants in Florence

Community members are complaining of broken fire hydrants in Florence.

Members reached out to ABC 15 to complain of two broken fire hydrants along Meadors Road in Florence.

The hydrants have black plastic wrapped around them, indicating they're not operating.

ABC 15 reached out to the City of Florence and Florence County, as a portion of Meadors Road is in Florence County.

Florence County Administrator Kevin Yokim said that the issue falls upon the City of Florence.

"The West Florence Fire Deptartment has documented and made us aware of broken fire hydrants at 3701 Meadors Road and near 3500 Meadors Road. Both of these are on the repair list," Scotty Davis, Florence city manager, said.

ABC 15 reported last week that there were four broken or non operating fire hydrants in the Grove Park community off of Hoffmeyer Road in Florence, and we reached out to Davis about the broken fire hydrants.

Davis said they're aware of the current list of fire hydrants needing repair that was listed on Facebook.

"We have solicited and accepted public bids from utility contractors to assist the utility crews in making these repairs and expect to have a contractor on site in the near future," Davis said.

The City of Florence is working with the Florence County Fire/Rescue Coordinator and the Unified Fire District in effort to improve hydrant maintenance outside the city limits.
